What is Ambulatory Phlebectomy?
If you notice bulging varicose veins on your legs or somewhere else, it's a sign of a larger vein issue. Along with symptoms, such as leg swelling, skin discoloration, and even venous ulcers, our team at Vitality Vein Care offers ambulatory phlebectomy to help you address these issues and get back to your regular everyday activities. This minimally invasive treatment is often used in conjunction with endogenous ablation to treat the aching, burning, itching, and other symptoms of varicose veins. This treatment can remove the unsightly varicose veins, as well as other troublesome symptoms. For more information, contact board-certified vein specialists Drs. Bradley Hart, Aaron Roberts, or Daniel Rizzo at our office in Prosper, TX.
What are the benefits of ambulatory phlebectomy?
Varicose veins are more than just a cosmetic issue. If left untreated, they can lead to serious health issues. Ambulatory phlebectomy reduces the appearance of these veins and improves your overall health. Vitality Vein Care is proud to offer ambulatory phlebectomy for the following reasons:
- Safe: This minimally invasive treatment is performed under local anesthesia, so you can rest assured that you are in safe hands.
- Effective: Ambulatory phlebectomy is effective for reducing painful symptoms like swelling and cramping.
- Convenient: Our procedure is performed on an outpatient basis — so patients can go home the same day without a long hospital stay.
Am I A Candidate For Ambulatory Phlebectomy?
Ambulatory phlebectomy treatments at Vitality Vein Care can improve the appearance of bulging varicose veins that are on the legs or other body areas. These blood vessels are rarely a medical issue, but they are deemed a cosmetic problem. However, they can cause swelling, itching, aching, or even ulcers. Affected men and women may avoid certain clothing (such as swimsuits and shorts) or use a large amount of makeup to attempt to cover up their unsightly veins. Ambulatory phlebectomy is a good minimally invasive option for patients who are in overall good health, do not have a history of blood clots, and are not pregnant.

"I made an appointment with Vitality to discuss treating spider veins. I have treated them with sclerotherapy for years and decided to visit an actual doctor to see what else could be done. This appointment was very eye-opening, and I'm so glad I went because I discovered these spider veins are caused by deeper vein issues; they are not just cosmetic. A sonogram was performed on both my legs as was a nerve test to determine underlying problems. The sonogram revealed areas that are causing the spider veins, and the staff explained the treatments available to correct them. These are done in the office with no down time. The staff was professional, helpful and very nice. I recommend Vitality Vein Care!"- J.H. / Google / Aug 06, 2022

How Does Ambulatory Phlebectomy Work?
This outpatient procedure is sought after by many of our Plano, Prosper, and Frisco, TX patients because they can walk in, walk out, and have little to no recovery. This procedure is performed utilizing a local anesthetic to help you remain comfortable. One of our talented doctors will make small microincisions near your vein and will remove the diseased vein from your body. Stitches are not usually required because the incisions are so small, between 2 – 3 millimeters. Many of our patients like this treatment because it completely removes the bulge associated with varicose veins. Once the procedure is complete, you can get home. It may take a few days to a week to heal, but the symptoms related to your vein will be gone. While you recover, you may experience bruising or swelling so we recommend wearing compression stockings the following days after your treatment.
Ambulatory phlebectomy FAQs
What causes varicose veins?
There are many possible causes of varicose veins, but the most common is simply genetics. If you have a family member with varicose veins, you are more likely to develop them yourself. Other risk factors include being overweight or pregnant, which can put extra pressure on your veins. Standing or sitting for long periods of time can also contribute to the development of bulging veins.
Is ambulatory phlebectomy safe?
Vitality Vein Care uses the latest technology and equipment to ensure patients receive the best possible care. We are proud to offer ambulatory phlebectomy as a safe and effective treatment option for varicose veins. This minimally-invasive procedure only requires a short recovery period, and patients can return to normal activities within a few days.
What about over-the-counter treatments?
Drugstore solutions may seem like an easy fix for varicose veins, but they are often ineffective and could cause more harm than good. We recommend patients in Prosper, TX, consult with a vein specialist to discuss their options.
